Sunshine Infant and Nursery School

Where little people come to shine

Curriculum Statement

Children want the same things we want.

To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained and delighted.Dr Seuss

It is this shared thinking and belief that underpins our approach to curriculum design at Sunshine.

We know that happy, confident and engaged learners will make excellent progress and achieve their full potential, giving them the same advantages and opportunities as others.

The Sunshine curriculum meets this demand by providing the building blocks for life.

Curiosity and inquisitiveness is encouraged and fostered from the very beginning, resulting in a continued thirst for knowledge and love of learning that is built on with every successive year. It is our intent that this desire to learn becomes a lifelong passion.

Our children know that reading is the key that unlocks a world of opportunities and its importance is understood by all. They can echo the following;

The more that you read the more you will know.

The more that you learn the more places you'll go. Dr Seuss

However we are aware that what our children learn today will impact upon the world tomorrow. We know that society is ever changing and that kindness, compassion, tolerance and resilience are qualities that are as important as reading, writing and maths. The eight values of Sunshine, that echo our British Values, underpin all that we do, all that we teach and all that our children learn. Our children know that;

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot

Nothing is going to get better it's not. Dr Seuss

Our children's views, interests and feedback are the most important tool when shaping the curriculum along with each child's individual needs. We use varied approaches, appealing to all learning styles. We firmly believe that no child is ever forgotten or left behind. Disadvantages mean we may need to be braver, stronger and more resilient but a world of wonderful opportunities are just as achievable and available due to the values, beliefs, skills and knowledge acquired at Sunshine.

Before they move on to their next school our children know that learning is a life long journey, a fact finding mission and a joy. That the curiosity and inquisitiveness encouraged from day one and that formed the basis of their time at Sunshine will be ever present and never ending, regardless of age.

Its high time you were shown that you really don't know all there is to be known. Dr Seuss
